Blasting Through the Deep Snow
There was a blizzard going on and even though the snow was getting deeper by the minute, this squirrel was searching for acorns beneath the snow. It would dive into the deep snow and after scrounging around for while, it would jump up out of the snow to another spot.
Mystic River Highway Bridge in Mystic, CT. It is a bascule bridge also referred to as a drawbridge. A bascule bridge is a moveable bridge with a counterweight that continuously balances a span throughout its upward swing to allow boat traffic through. The Mystic River Drawbridge allows both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
This Least Tern (Sternula antillarum) had been diving for small fish all afternoon. It captures fish by plunge-diving head first from the air into the water. Here the Tern is coming up out of the water after its dive.

It's a beautiful September day and the saltmarsh is loaded with Snowy Egrets (Egretta thule). Most are resting in the trees and on the mudflats. A few are fishing along the mudflats and every so often one will do a flyby.
The snow storm has ended and the woods are full of fresh fallen snow.
A winter storm left a foot of fluffy snow on top of this frozen pond and surrounding woods.
I was passing by and noticed someone had decorated this evergreen tree at the edge of the woods.
