Its a brand new season in the salt marshes and the Ospreys are busy caring for their newborn chicks. This Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) had been taking a break up high in a tree at the edge of the woods. It swooped down from the tree in a "U" shaped flight pattern and is at the bottom of the "U" about to head up the left side of the "U" to land on its nest. Notice its eye looking up at the nest.
Most times I find that birds perched in trees in the woods wind up on branches in deep shadows. Most of this tree was in deep shadows except for this one small area near the top of the tree, right where this Red-winged Blackbird landed. This is one of the rare shots I been able to get of a Red-winged Blackbird in good light.
